We thank the Louisiana House for rejecting the proposed rule change by the Louisiana Department of Health to mandate COVID-19 shots for school attendance.

“The Louisiana Department of Health does not have the authority to do what they are proposing.

The Department of Health cites statutes that give them broad authority to take necessary actions to control the spread of disease. While this may be true, these statutes do not give them the authority to prohibit any attendance in school.

This proposed rule contains the following sentence.

Each school in the State shall prohibit in-person attendance of any individual not vaccinated by this sub-section.

Nothing, the Department of Health is proposing in this section is authorized by any law. They simply do not have the authority to do what they are proposing.”  Clay Schexnayder  Speaker of the House (end 3:11)
